This is a question I ask myself frequently. It’s not about spoiling myself or being selfish. It’s actually a very constructive question to ask. Let me paint a picture. I am sitting in an apartment, the breakfast stuff is still on the table but it’s late evening. There are dirty dishes in the sink and the dishwasher hasn’t been operated in a few days. There are wet clothes in the laundry. I haven’t spoken to anyone, I am hungry and tired. Clearly if this is the true picture of my day and situation then it’s going to be a challenge for me to be very positive. So what can I do for me today? I can make my bed. I can clear off the table, I can eat. In short I can do any one thing, or number of things.
Clearing the table makes the room less cluttered. Making a bed makes a room more tidy. There are many things, small things I can do for me. I could tidy those papers that have been staring at me for example. Suddenly I am less irritated, and pressured by the small stuff. I am fed and can focus more clearly. I can now give my attention to other challenges or not as I choose. It’s up to me. I am doing something for myself to day. I am clearing a stress no matter how small an irritation it might be. Stress free then I can be creative, prone to happy thoughts and avoid dis-ease.??
